Omeka is a popular web application used for displaying library, museum, archives, and scholarly collections and exhibitions. Developed by the Roy Rosenzweig Center for History and New Media at George Mason University, Omeka has been used by several faculty at Georgetown for its ability to group student-uploaded items to faculty-curated collections and exhibits.
I recently had a chance to work with two Georgetown faculty members using Omeka, and an issue that came up with both sites was setting the correct directory path for ImageMagick. Have you run into this issue? Follow the steps below for help.
What is ImageMagick?
ImageMagick is software that performs the task of generating thumbnail images for image items in an Omeka collection. When you view a list of items on your Omeka site, you’ll see thumbnails for the item (if it was added as an image) next to the name of the item.
Although ImageMagick is provided by Reclaim Hosting for all Omeka sites, site admins still may need to change one setting before thubmbail images appear.
Changing the ImageMagick directory path
To change this setting, go to the Settings >> General menu and scroll to the bottom of the page. You’ll see a field for the the ImageMagick Directory path, which should contain this value:
